Now lets see an example of geography being used to improve everyday lives
John Snow...one of the world's first human health geographers.
During a London cholera outbreak in 1854, many phasicians believed the disease was being spread through "bad air". However, John Snow was not convinced of this explanation. By speaking to residents of the area, Snow was able to create a dot map showcasing all of the known cases of Cholera up to that point in the outbreak. Through his investigation Snow was able to identify the cause of the outbreak as a contaminated water pump. |
